Kimberly Hodges mindset safety management

Kimberly has dedicated her entire career to supporting children and adolescents affected by trauma. Beginning as a behavior specialist and later a classroom teacher in a private residential setting, it was here she first met and worked with Marshall Siler, founder of Mindset. Her commitment continued for 23 years in the public school system, where she served as both a classroom teacher and behavior specialist in the GNETS (Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support) Program. Kimberly has consistently approached challenging behaviors through a trauma-informed lens, significantly impacting programming for students with emotional and behavioral disorders.

Advocating for Intentional Connections as Foundational to Educational Success

During her tenure in public education, Kimberly received recognition as Staff Member of the Year and Outstanding Special Educator from Georgia State University. She advocated for students within GNETS by serving on the Multidisciplinary Team at the Southern Crescent Child Advocacy Center, participating in Juvenile Mental Health Court, and maintaining Partner in Prevention status with Darkness to Light. Kimberly introduced the first therapy dog to the GNETS program in Henry County in 2013 and collaborated with Captain Planet to establish a learning garden, highlighting the therapeutic benefits of animals and gardening.

Kimberly’s educational background includes a B.A. in Sociology from Emory University, an M.Ed. in Special Education (Interrelated) from Georgia State University, and an Ed.S. in Mental Health in Schools from the University of Missouri. She expanded her expertise by becoming a certified trainer for The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children and completing Child First training as a Child Forensic Interviewer. Alongside her role as Behavior Specialist with GNETS, she founded K. Hodges Consulting, LLC, aiming to support individuals impacted by trauma beyond the GNETS setting.

In 2020, Kimberly became one of Georgia’s first trainers in Dr. Bruce Perry’s Neurosequential Model in Education, partnering with South Metro GNETS Director Derrick Gilchrist to implement brain-based training for staff and students. She joined the Mindset team in 2023 as a consultant, co-developing the Mindset Trauma Responsive Model Classroom and advocating for intentional connections as foundational to educational success. Kimberly, along with her therapy dog, Skillet, continues to support students and staff with regulation at South Metro GNETS. Contact Kimberly at [email protected].
