MindSet Instructor Training We Believe…
The recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery along with countless others throughout history shine a light on the evil of systemic racism and the worst of humanity. These incidents and all social injustices need to be addressed honestly and with vulnerability at every level and across all sectors of society. Righteous protests have been interrupted by disruptive incidents of aggression and violence fueled by generations of oppression and social inequity. Interruptions that were met with aggression and violence, which is at the root of the cause. There is a collective voice shouting from the core of civilization that must be heard in these troubling times.
We believe it is possible to turn the tide of aggression and violence and pledge to do our part to keep the conversation going. We seek a deeper understanding of cultural humility while joining all the voices raised in outrage and stand unequivocally with all who are experiencing injustice, racism, and inequality. We believe that a person in a crisis can and will choose alternatives to aggression if given the opportunity. We believe that power struggles can be avoided by remaining calm, aware, and respectful while encountering people who are in need. We believe in being proactive rather than reactive which results in appropriate responses characterized by empathy and compassion, rather than forced compliance and control. We believe that it is our duty and our calling to set everyone up for success; even those who have broken the law. We believe that there are ultimately two motivating factors; fear and love. We choose love.
As service providers, we have taught and certified thousands of individuals in de-escalation and the appropriate use of physical restraint. We have spoken out against any type of prone restraint for over 20 years. The video of the excessive use of force by those who have sworn to serve and protect have traumatized our nation. Those actions, and the lack of real action to keep these incidents from occurring are inexcusable.
Responses to the challenges can only be found looking inward rather than outward with love rather than fear. Although these issues seem enormous while looking at them from a global perspective, we can make a positive difference in our families, workplace, neighborhoods, and communities. We embrace this opportunity by pledging to listen carefully, confront our own biases, and continuously seek a deeper understanding of how we can add meaningful value to the struggle for a better future for all.
